French Restaurant - Rara Avis

Owned by two Frenchmen in a partnership with an Indian Food Lover and Entrepreneur Mr. Rajiv Aneja, opened in April 2012. 

Rara Avis is Latin for Rare Bird. 

 The restaurant is a French Fine dining and not only offers authentic French Cuisine but is also wrapped in a French theme. 



Ambiance --

A two floor restaurant, includes a beautiful terrace. The interiors are classy and gorgeous. Wooden furniture, paintings on the walls, niche light bulbs, Dessert counter on one and Bar on the other side. Since I was here for a Review on a hot Saturday afternoon, I chose to sit in the air conditioned interior. The sofa's are comfortable and gives a cozy feel.



Food Talk --

We started with Salads - Wine - Starters - Mains - Signature Cocktails and lastly - Desserts. Names of dishes (though I have forgotten all the French names), Description and Rating are mentioned below:-

Croutes aux Morilles (Warm morels of mushroom on croutons port wine reduction) - Mushroom gravy with tiny pieces of mushroom spread over croutons. It had a creamy texture and tasted absolutely delicious. Rating 4/5  

Beetroot Carpaccio - A brilliant way to start your meal. The salad has lots of Vitamins and acts as an anti oxidant because its loaded with Beetroot. And is delicious. With feta and pesto, top this salad with Wine. Rating 3.5/5

Warm Goat Cheese Salad - Warm goey cheese makes this salad even more appealing. This salad was scrumptious with crusty in-house prepared bread. I loved it so much that I knew I am in for a treat here. On one hand I had white wine Sangria and on another the Goat cheese Salad - a balanced diet! Rating 4/5



Starter -

Vegetarian Croquettes - The Indian version would be Tikkis or Cutlets. However, the only difference is that Croquettes are more crispier than cutlets. These are filled with cheese and fresh vegetables and served with a Tangy Tomato and a Tamarind sauce. Rating 3.5/5

Chicken Croquettes - These croquettes are a bit thick due to the chicken filling inside and a buttery bread crumbs on the outside. A good appetizer. Rating 3.5/5


Main -

Spinach & Cheese Crepe - Filled with cheese, these ricotta and spinach crepes were super. Rating 4/5


Sweet Potato & Ricotta Cheese Ravioli - Sweet potato mashed with Ricotta cheese and basil. Rating 3.5/5


Wild Mushroom Risotto -  A delicious twist on the classic risotto. Its creamy and had apt flavors. Rating 4/5


Signature Cocktails -

LIIT (Long Island Ice Tea) - Vodka, Gin, Tequila, Light Rum in a power packed tall glass is a must have. It was bold. Rating 4/5

Bellini - A sparkling wine blends perfectly with French food. Rating 4/5

Peach Martini - A soothing sweet peach martini. Rating 4/5


Dessert -

Tiramisu ; Lemon Tart with Lemon Sorbet ; Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream ; Creme Brulee.

Tiramisu & Lemon Tart with Lemon Sorbet, is a must must try. Rating 4/5




Overall, a Tempting Culinary experience indeed. During our lunch, Mr Aneja sat and talked about all the dishes that were being served. He not only provided us with the information but got the dishes tweaked according to our preferences. Thank You Mr Aneja for the Warm Hospitality.

The staff is friendly, courteous and provides time to time suggestions when one is unable to decide what to order.

I would definitely go back to Rara Avis again to explore the Terrace during winters. They say, its romantic.
